Jimann Trader Misty Morn Sup 93 Champion Cow Great Southern Challenge 2001/02
Based initially on Island bloodlines, we were fortunate to have two outstanding sires, in Barwidgee Golden Heritage SS, and Edi Design Lord to lay a solid foundation on which we have used US genetics with outstanding results. Selecting the best available bulls with an emphasis on cow families has seen Hermitage, Lester, Berretta, Sambo, Mr T, Barber, and Hallmark used with great success. Heifers that entered the herd the last two seasons by Kody, Bomber, Flower power, Jace, Bigtime, and Bluemoon show considerable promise. Amongst the rising two year olds and yearlings we have Avery Max, Country, Rocket, Rebel, Parade, Flowerpower, Whiskey, BW Marshall and Jurace daughters. We have competed successfully in our club's On Farm Challenge, with Jimann Trader Misty Morn Sup 93 taking out the Great Southern Championship in 2001/02. Berretta Roxanne VHC 90, won our club's two year old championship, finishing 5th in the Great Southern in 2004. Her maternal sister Bomber Rosina won the NDJBC two year old class in 2006. We have also won the breeders group of 10 cows twice in recent years. |
The Jimann Jersey Stud, of Trevor and Julie Campbell can be found just west of Rochester in Northern Victoria. Founded over 40 years ago by 14 year old Trevor, the aim has been to breed functionally correct cows that can produce under all conditions. This has been put to the test these past three years, with far from normal climatic conditions being experienced. Approximately 150 registered cows are milked on 60 hectares and production for the 2005/06 season was 5683 litres, 271 kgs butterfat, 207 kgs protein, 156 cows. Great emphasis is placed on type, and this is evident with an 88 point average for all cows over 3 years.
Given the harsh conditions endured in the Campaspe District, the lack of irrigation water and the great uncertainty of the future in regards to the Campaspe Catchment and allocations, we are contemplating our future and most likely will be scaling back our operations and will have spring calving cows for sale. As members of the NDJBC for over 30 years we have been strong supporters of the Jersey Breed. Trevor in capacity as a Classifier and past Vic Committee Member, has had the pleasure of travelling all over the country and meeting many breeders. We welcome visitors to Echuca, and look forward to hosting a small section of the proposed program here at Jimann.
