The next meeting will be be a working bee at Nicholson's, curr Road, Gigarre, to set up for the Northern Lights Sale.  This will be held on the 19th March commencing at 10.30am.

 

 
Great Southern Challenge 2007

 

'WELL DONE NDJBC taking out the Baker Farrell Trophy for most successful club. Congratulations to club representatives at the Great Southern Challenge.

  2008 Sale

 

 

 

Following the success of the 2007 Northern Lights Sale, a suggestion was received from outside our club that an annual or bi-annual joint effort sale be held in the north of the state.  The sale will be held on 1st April 2008.  All suggestions and attendance at future meetings by members are very welcome and we look forward putting together a great line up

 

 
   

 

 

  Kyabram Research Farm Visit The club visited the Kyabram Research Farm on 3rd December 2007, with a presentation by Dr Bill Wales on the nutrition of dairy cows.    Thankyou to Warren Langley for organising this day.  
     

2007 On Farm Challenge

 

 

 

 

 

The Club’s on-farm challenge was held on Thursday 8th & Friday 9th November 2007.  Presentations were made on the Friday evening at the Criterion Hotel, Mackay Street, Rochester.  Thankyou to Julie Campbell for organising the challenge once again and to stewards and drivers, Bill Cochrane, Trevor Campbell and Pat Nicholson and to photographer Lisa Broad for the display on the presentation night.  Congratulations to all winners of each class and to those who went to represent the club at the Great Southern Challenge. 2007 Jerseys Light Years Ahead Heifer Tour

 

 

 

 

The NDJBC conducted a heifer tour on 17th October 2007 looking at new release and progeny test sire daughters.  Leaving Wellbred Genetics, Bridge Road, Rochester at 10am the bus toured farms taking a lunch break in Lockington.  Continuing after lunch, the bus returned to Rochester at 3pm. Daughters of the following sires were viewed during the day:- Action, Aramis, Atomiser, Augustus, Brazo, Country, Court Jester, Galaxy, Guarantee, Manhatten, Megastar, Outinfront, Parade, Rebel, Ringmybell, Trouble & Valerian family members.  Thankyou to sponsors Bos Trading for lunch and Agri-Gene for supporting the bus costs.

 

 
     

Life Membership to Trevor & Julie Campbell

 

Congratulations to Trevor & Julie Campbell, who at the Annual Meeting held on 8th August 2007, received a Life Membership in recognition of their loyal & valued service to the Northern District Jersey Breeders Club over a period of many years.  Well done and thankyou Trevor & Julie

 

 
     

2007 NDJBC AGM

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The AGM was held on 8th August at the Wine Bar in Rochester.  All positions were filled with Bill Cochrane again filling the shoes of President, Lisa Broad taking up the reins of Secretary and Val Read continuing in the position of Treasurer.  A BIG THANKYOU to Carolyn Smith for the newsletter preparation and distribution, Jane Boys for publicity and sourcing sponsorship each year for the On-farm challenge and to Val Read undertaking the secretarial duties in conjunction with the Treasurer’s position. 

Guest Speaker at the Annual Meeting was Dr Bill Wales from the DPI Kyabram Research Farm.  A very informative presentation provided details on the feed efficiency of the jersey and the projects undertaken at the farm   Many agreed after the meeting that the farm would be an interesting to visit as a group at a later date.
