The Jimann Jersey Stud, of Trevor and Julie Campbell can be found just west of Rochester in Northern Victoria.
Founded over 40 years ago by 14 year old Trevor, the aim has been to breed functionally correct cows that can produce under all conditions. This has been put to the test these past five years, and our farming practices have changed dramatically through necessity.
90% of our fodder has been purchased over this time, and the cows have responded very positively. In 2007/08 146 Cows produced 5660 Lts 281 kg butterfat and 206 kg protein.
With another zero allocation the herd has been lot feed since October 2008 and production is up around 15%. Bore water has been reserved and short term rye grass and forage cereals are currently been watered.
Great emphasis is placed on type, and this is evident with an 88 point average for all cows over 3 years Selecting the best available bulls with an emphasis on cow families and udder traits has seen Hermitage, Lester, Berretta, Sambo, Mr T, Flowerpower, and Kody used with great success.
A highlist of this season undoubtedly been the introduction of 45 heifers to the herd, and all 45 will have to be dried off. Not one will be culled on production or type.
Amongst these heifers, are daughters of Parade, Flowerpower, Avery Max, Country, Whiskey,
Rocket, BW Marshall, Jurace ,Astound, Mr T, Mid Thunder, Deerview Galaxy, Kody and Legion.
